, 1 min read , about Kakkadampoyil
Kakkadampoyil is a hill village on the border of Kozhikode and Malappuram districts, about 44 km from Kozhikode city. Its ridges catch the mist for much of the year, and it has become a popular weekend escape for families and groups from Kozhikode and the rest of Malabar.
What to do
The main pleasures are the views and the cool air. Kurishumala viewpoint and its short trek look out over the surrounding ranges, and Kozhippara waterfalls is close by. Jeep trips run on the rougher tracks, and Pazhassi Cave is within reach. Most of the resorts are built around swimming pools that look out over the valley, so many visitors simply settle in and watch the mist move through the hills.
Where to stay
Stays range from private villas booked as a whole, which suit families and groups, to rooms and cottages with valley views, tree houses and dormitories for larger groups. Many have infinity pools, campfires and barbecue areas. FindKerala lists more than 30 resorts in Kakkadampoyil, and you can contact each one directly.
Nearby
Anakkampoyil, Thusharagiri waterfalls and the forest roads around Thiruvambady and Kodenchery are easy to add to the trip. Thusharagiri, where two streams meet across three falls, is good for a half-day walk.
When to go
The hills are pleasant most of the year. The monsoon brings mist, waterfalls and heavy rain, and the narrow hill roads need care in wet weather. Weekends are busy, so book ahead, or go midweek for a quieter stay.
