Green hills under drifting cloud at Vagamon

Hill station in Idukki

Vagamon

A hill station on the Idukki–Kottayam border at about 1,100 metres, with grassy meadows, pine forest and paragliding.

Vagamon is a hill station at about 1,100 metres on the border of Idukki and Kottayam districts. Its rolling meadows, small lakes and tea estates are cooler and quieter than the busier hill towns, and the area is often covered in mist.

The pine forest, planted on the hillside, is one of the most visited spots. The open meadows nearby are used for walks, picnics and film shoots, and the slopes of Vagamon host paragliding.

Vagamon is known for three hills sacred to three faiths. Kurisumala, with its Christian ashram and Way of the Cross, Murugan Mala, with a rock-cut temple to the Hindu god Murugan, and Thangal Para, with the shrine of a Sufi saint, all stand within a few kilometres of one another.

The Marmala waterfall and the viewpoints along the road from Erattupetta are within easy reach, and Kottayam and the Kumarakom backwaters are a few hours' drive away.
